I have a personal understanding of how difficult it can be to take that first step into counselling and can empathise with anybody making that initial connection with a counsellor or therapist.
Being able to develop  trust and feel safe with somebody you've only just met can be a daunting experience for many and  may seem like a massive hurdle that is impossible to overcome,
However taking that first positive step can be the start of a journey that enables so many people to have a more fulfillling, enjoyable and happy life.

To help you feel confident in making the decision to take that step I have included information throughout the site about the services I offer, the approach I take and the  experience and qualifications gained while on my journey to becoming a professional counsellor.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions regarding the services I offer.

My areas of speciality and understanding include working with stress, depression, general anxiety disorder, panic attacks,
feelings of sadness, suicidal ideation, relational issues, low self-esteem and self-confidence, Bereavement, grief and loss. (as an animal lover this includes pet bereavement too).
I use the following approaches in my practice.

My Experience

I have had several years' experience of working with people who have been touched by Bereavement, grief and loss through a hospice organisation in North Yorkshire. I have also worked with clients who have presented with anxiety, stress, depression, suicide ideation, low confidence, low self-esteem, trauma and relational issues. As a counsellor I am passionate about creating a person-centred environment that is accessible and adaptable for all. For the past 32 years I have also worked with vulnerable adults within their own homes and multidisciplinary agency settings.

Therapies I incorporate into my practice.

 Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
 Humanistic therapies
 Integrative
 Intercultural Therapy
 Jungian therapy
 Mindfulness
 Person-centred therapy
 Psychoanalysis
 Psychoanalytic therapy
 Psychodynamic therapy
 Solution focused brief therapy
 Transactional analysis

Relational Psychotherapy

This form of psychotherapy can help clients to recognise how they relate with others and how this impacts on their life experiences by exploring your inner thoughts and feelings and behavioural patterns.
Working relationally has the capacity to allow a person to maintain emotional well being and have fulfilling relationships with others.

Psychodynamic approach

Incorporating a psychodynamic approach into my work allows me to explore with you the origins of a behaviour which in turn can then facilitate understanding and change.

Person-centred approach

A person-centred approach, means that I will work with you to understand how the world looks from your perspective whilst offering a safe space where you will be fully accepted without judgement in an environment where I can support you to better understand your feelings and where you can get in touch with your inner strengths allowing for personal growth to occur and enabling you to function well.

I also employ mindfulness techniques and coping strategies which aid self-awareness and promote acknowledgement and acceptance of one’s own thoughts, feelings and body sensations.

About Me

I have always had empathy and compassion for others from an early age as well as an interest in Psychology, so after many years of working with vulnerable people I decided to take the plunge and change my career to become a counsellor. In this role I could combine my compassion and empathy for people with a professional underpinning of a Therapeutic Counselling degree. I walked away from Leeds Beckett University with a Bachelor of Science degree with honours in 2019 after many years of study. Within that time, I set up Counselling with Sally my private practice.
